Playing Hermione Granger in ‘Harry Potter‘ Watson had never been experienced before her theater instructors
recommended her to agents wanting to make an upcoming film based on the first book of the best-selling Harry Potter series.
A 9-year-old Watson had an eight-time audition for the part which would make her an international star.
Writer Harry Potter J.K. Rowling, who has been heavily involved in the film process to ensure that it stayed faithful
to the novel, wanted Watson to be involved in the project.
Watson impressed casting agents and producers of the film enough and won the role of Hermione Granger,
Harry Potter’s smart, bossy best friend and voice of reason. Daniel Radcliffe played Harry Potter, and Rupert Grint was cast as another best friend of Harry’s, Ron Weasley.
The trio of British child actors would become recognized across the globe for their roles as young wizards fighting a
war between good and evil, beginning with Harry Potter’s release in November 2001 and the Sorcerer’s Stone.
Watson’s film debut was a huge success.
On its opening day in the United States, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone received a record-breaking $33.3 million, en route to grossing $975 million worldwide.
It was nominated for three Academy Awards and seven BAFTA Awards, with Watson earning critical acclaim for cementing her active status as a star.
Watson had been busy shooting the Potter series for the next decade.
In 2002, she repeated the role of Hermione for Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, and in 2004 for Harry Potter
and the Prisoner of Azkaban, and continued to be the star of the eight-part series through the final film,
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2.
While they spent their adolescence on movie sets, with five hours of tutoring each day, Watson and costars Radcliffe and Grint kept up with their lessons.
Watson took equivalence exams at high school and scored high in each subject.
She took a year off from school to film the last two Harry Potter films but maintained that she was committed to pursuing her education.
Watson tried hard to shed a star image of her boy, one so closely tied to the Potter franchise. “I’ve worked in a bubble completely.
In the end, they found me and picked me. And now, I’m trying desperately to find my way around it, “she said in a 2011 interview with Vogue.
Emma Watson Education
When a teenager is coming of age as an emerging film star, Watson also emerged as a fashionista, her image catching
the attention of many prominent figures in the fashion industry.
“I love fashion,” she once told Teen Vogue, “I think it’s so necessary because it’s how you present yourself to the world.”
Watson announced in September 2009 that she is working with People Tree, a fashion label that promotes fair trade.
When Watson was selected as the face of Burberry’s Autumn / Winter 2009 line, and again for the 2010 Spring / Summer season, she catapulted into the world of high fashion and modeling.
Watson took fans by surprise when she shaved off her long locks, and in August 2010, she debuted a pixie haircut.
The new ‘do help her shed the child star picture of her Potter days, and Watson graced Vogue’s cover in July 2011. Next month, she appeared in a Lancôme perfume ad.
In the fall of 2009, Watson enrolled as a freshman at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, continuing her dedication to her studies.
Watson believed that over British education, she preferred an American university because the American system enables students to learn multiple subjects at once.
Brown was a spot too, Watson said, where she could fit in more easily. “I would just like to be normal,” she said.
“I just want anonymity,” Watson announced in March 2011 that she was postponing her schooling to work on the Potter finale.
In July, after studying at Oxford University in the fall, she announced plans to return to Brown for a year to complete her diploma.
She received an English degree from Brown in 2014.
She was named ONU Women Goodwill Ambassador the same year.
Emma Watson Boyfriend/Dating
You probably grew up watching Emma Watson in Harry Potter as Hermione Granger.
You were shocked by her recent performance as Meg March in Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women adaptation by Greta Gerwig.
Since then, as ever, she has been the apple of our hearts, but there has always been a part of me wondering: Who catches Watson’s eye?
From her days at Hogwarts, Tom Felton, Watson has been rumored to be related to her old co-star in the past year.
This was shot down, however, as it was also rumored this Felton had signed up for Raya, the super-secretive celebrity dating app.
That if you were dating Emma Watson, you would not be doing.
Knowing this was not a possibility, honestly, had been heartbreaking.
